WP 3 – Architecture and Core Components
Work Package 3, led by the Queen Mary and Westfield College, is concerned with the in-depth study of existing approaches and key technologies that are available at the start of the project. WP 3 analyses the adopted best practice approaches, highlighting the limitations of existing and ongoing projects relevant to TRIDEC and formulate recommendations on standards. The investigations on user requirements from thematic work packages for the identification of common user requirements to the core system will be promoted. Furthermore definitions of the core system, the communication infrastructure requirements and how thematic requirements can be mapped to the system requirements are formulated.
The design of the extensible core of a service-oriented architecture for crises management environments that support the generic system requirements and the support for non functional core-requirements such as performance, Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) requirements will be addressed.
WP 3 builds the simulations of the basic models of a system that can be used for performance modelling, resilience and scalability design, and validates them through ‘what if‘ experiments. These experiments furthermore address the detailed design definition of the core system components and their interfaces, the components and service repository as well as the configuration and metadata, the communication infrastructure and service bus (multi-bus) middleware, the data assurance, authorisation and security services.
The implementation of the core system is achieved in three steps, from a light-weight to a heavy-weight system in order to ensure the availability of a system relatively early in the system life cycle and to target end users who may lack the resources to work with a more complex system. The evolving system will be reassessed in a series of system tests.
