AutumnSchool 14th to 18th October 2013:
Implementation of Tsunami Early Warning Systems in the North East Atlantic and Mediterranean
Latest software technologies for intelligent geo-information management are indispensable in complex and critical decision-making processes in Earth sciences. This Autumn School is designed to give an insight into tsunami related Earth monitoring and the implementation of an early warning system in the North East Atlantic and Mediterranean. It includes introductions to seismology, tsunami science, sensor systems, IT-infrastructures and software components for tsunami monitoring and early warning.
In addition to courses and showcases participants have the opportunity to network with people from other warning centers and research institutes. In particular it is possible to meet our TRIDEC project partners from the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) in Lisbon and the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) in Istanbul. Have a talk with our GITEWS and GEOFON researchers who designed and constructed the German Indonesian Tsunami Early Warning System which is now in 24/7 service.
The upcoming autumn school will take place from the 14th to 18th October 2013 at German Research Centre for Geosciences - GFZ in Potsdam. Target audience are young experts and employees of tsunami and earthquake warning centers, graduates, PhD students as well as Post‐doc scientists (geology, seismology, geo-informatics and other related fields) but also professionals, e.g. from civil protection agencies dealing with natural hazards and early warning.
The number of seats is limited. To apply, please send a short CV including your current affiliation to
tridec-contact@gfz-potsdam.de.
Registration deadline: 20.09.2013
Autumn School Expenses (Course fees, Lunch & Welcome Dinner) will be borne by the TRIDEC Research Project. Transfer, accommodation and other meals are not included.
